The bank is hiring around 30 people each month as it ramps up operations and plans to open its new contact center there in March, said Simon Hong, TD senior vice president and head of the Greenville Contact Center.

Hong gave a tour of the contact center today.

The campus includes three office buildings totaling about 300,000 square feet. More than 600 people work there already but as many as 1,500 could be hired. The bank will continue hiring until 2014, Hong said.

The $85 million corporate campus was built by The South Financial Group in 2010 but sat largely unused. TD acquired South Financial in 2010 and announced plans in 2011 to use the campus as a regional hub.

The contact center is located in the middle building that South Financial designed to be a food court and conference center. TD added two floors to allow space for 500 contact center employees.

The two side-buildings are four floors each and will house other TD departments, including retail card services, small-business lending, deposits, risk and audit, technology and other services, Hong said.

“All businesses are hiring,” he said.

Around 300 contact center employees already have been hired and are working in temporary space in one of the adjacent buildings. They’ve handled 1 million calls since taking the first call in August, Hong said.

TD officially will open the entire campus March 16 with a community event and job fair.

Contractors on the renovation project include M. B. Kahn Construction Co., Inc., Design Strategies and Hubbell Lighting.
