Fun Fact Friday: To the Stars August 20, 2021

Construction on the Vehicle Assembly Building, or VAB, at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center started 58 years ago this month! The facility required 65,000 cubic yards of concrete and 98,590 tons of steel to complete, and stands atop a support base of 4,225 steel pilings driven 164 feet into bedrock. The facility still has the world’s tallest high bay doors (456 feet) that take 45 minutes to open. Created to house Saturn V rockets, it houses NASA’s Space Launch System today. Headed to the stars? The trip starts with great construction on earth! #mbkahn #funfactfriday
