MUSC Central Energy Plant Charleston, South Carolina
This three-story, 60,000-square-foot energy plant is located one block from the Ashley River Tower Replacement Hospital. The structure is pile supported, structural steel, with a thin set brick and precast exterior. It supplies the hospital with chilled water, steam, and power via an underground piping system. Housed within the energy plant are three 1,300 ton chillers paired with three cooling towers, three 500hp fire tube boilers, eight chilled water and condenser pumps, and three 10,000 gallon fuel tanks to feed the 2,250KW generator in case of emergency. The energy plant was designed and constructed with future build out in mind, providing space for twice the equipment currently installed.
