Spartanburg High School Spartanburg, South Carolina
Spartanburg County School District Seven selected a 189-acre site at the former Lan-Yair golf course for their new high school. The construction team reached substantial completion in time for the opening of school in August 2019. In fact, the M. B. Kahn team worked with the District to fast-track the schedule in order to open the academic buildings 5 months early!
The main academic building is 407,449 square feet. On the south end of the site are 124 academic classrooms in four two-story wings. The main building also houses Viking Arena, a gymnasium that seats 2,500 spectators. Other campus facilities include the 7,500-seat Viking Stadium, a track and field complex, baseball and softball fields, six tennis courts, a cross country trail, two field houses, a 1,000-seat Fine Arts Center, an outdoor classroom, and walking trails. Spartanburg High School received a rating of two Green Globes through the Green Building Initiative’s certification program – the ninth high school in the nation and the first in the South Carolina to achieve two Globes (on a scale of four).
